The Birth of the African Union: May 25, 1963

Through the efforts of Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, representing the Monrovia Group of African states, and President Sekou Toure of Guinea, acting on behalf of the Casablanca Group, the leaders of 32 independent African states were brought together at Addis Ababa in May 1963. After two days of speeches, a charter creating the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was approved on 25 May (Africa Day).

The charter was signed within half an hour the next day as 30 heads of state and prime ministers mounted the podium in groups of four to non-stop thunderous applause. Morocco and Togo ratified the charter at a later stage.

Since then, it could be safe to say that the African Union has been in a quiet war with western colonialism.

Quiet at least as far as the citizens in the West are concerned. When most western controled media speaks of Africa, its only in relation to isolated incidences. Very seldom do we hear about the progress of the African Union. Since its inception, the membership has grown to 53 member nations. Of the 32 Leaders who signed the original document, none are still in office. A testimony to the effectiveness of an involved covert war being waged in Africa by Western colonialism. Resources would be the primary reason. Eventhough western colonialism has been plundering African resources for at least the last 150 years, Africa is still one of the most minerally rich continents on the earth. The history of Colonilaism, and now capitolism is appalling. Looked at from the a Christian perspective, it is evil. It is easy to see the current Aids pandemic afflicting Africa, was not accident. It is biological warfare. Perpetrated by evil selfish men hiding behind the appearence of good will the west likes to present to the world. But motre and more it is becoming obvious, these men serve only a private agenda. The main idealogy of the AU is to end the exploitation of western capitolism, which is long overdue. That is why western capitolism consistently spend money creating disruptive wars in Africa to keep the process destablized.

In June of 2001, after 38 years of struggle to reach this point, the treaty went into effect. The following year will see the transition of Africa into the AU.
